Small ways to create a fresh start

First of all, HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! I hope you all enjoyed ringing in the new year last night and spent it with your loved ones. I actually stayed in last night. I had planned on going out to a local bar but my friends decided to hit Galway city instead and every other new year I spent in the city I ended up ringing it in in a queue. Crowds are not my friend so I gave it a miss.

Before I begin, I want to let you know that this post isn't going to be one of those 'New year, New me' posts. I think sometimes we put way too much pressure on ourselves at New Years to completely change our lives and lifestyles but the fact is, the calendar changes but you can't overnight. So new years resolutions aren't exactly my thing.

However, I do think the new year is a great time to 'tidy' things up in your life and to create a fresh start. You don't have to do anything major but it's a good time to just hit the reset button and start with a blank canvas .

So without further ado, I thought I would share with you some simple ways to create a fresh start for yourself.

Organise your computer

This one is especially helpful if you're a blogger or use your computer a lot for studies. I am tackling all those folders full of assignments that have long been graded and deleting photos I am never going to use again. At least then going forward it will be so much easier to find new stuff that I actually want to use. It's also a great time to clear up your desktop and make sure it only contains shortcuts you really need.

Clear out your wardrobe

I try to do this more often than once a year because I have a shopping problem and buy way too many clothes. My wardrobe is currently wedged to the brim and I admit I don't wear half of its contents so I really need to have a clear out soon. There's no better feeling than having lots of breathing space in your wardrobe and knowing that every single thing in it is meaningful and will be used. Also, it makes room for all the clothes you want to buy this year!

Start a new journal

OK so I haven't actually got myself a 2019 journal yet, if you know of any pretty and functional brands do let me know as I am on the hunt. If you use a diary/journal starting a new one at the beginning of the year feels so good. It really does feel like a fresh start and you can put the previous year behind you.

Sort out your photos

We live in an age where we take hundreds of photos and rarely print out any, which is so sad. The new year is the perfect time to go through your phone albums (I have 1897 photos on mine!) and decide what photos you want to keep forever. Why not print them all out and keep them in a 2018 album, you will have them for eternity to look back on. Then go ahead and delete all of your photos on your phone starting afresh and making room for photos that, this time next year might be going in your 2019 album.

Tidy up your social media

Maybe you could take the opportunity of a fresh start to tidy up your following list on bloglovin', Instagram, twitter etc. maybe there are accounts that are no longer active or you're no longer interested in. Now you will have a curated feed full of things you actually want to see. This is also a great time to set new goals with your social media or to start a new Instagram theme.

Have a deep clean

Kinda like a spring clean but just in the New year! This is a perfect time to tackle every inch of your house, corners that have been ignored for months. Do a Mrs Hinch on it. Get your car washed and valeted, take your dog to be groomed, get on top of your laundry, you get my drift. Starting the new year in a clean and tidy environment is very motivating and comforting.
Hopefully, this has given you some ideas for creating a fresh start in 2019. I hope you're all feeling positive about this year and are ready to take it on. Remember, not to put too much pressure on yourself, as I said just because the calender changed doesn't mean you have to. Wishing you all more good days than bad in 2019 because that's all I hope for myself.

What do you like to do at the beginning of the year to help you start afresh? Do let me know in the comments section.
